Ompeluprojekti - Sewing project

I have decided to learn to sew. But since I have limited time, I've realized that I have to do things small part at a time. The first problem is the sewing machine, which I inherited from my grandmother and is very different than my mum's Husqvarna (which is like the ones we used in school). With this machine my mum sewed when she was still living at home, so the machine is at least from the beginning of 60's. But serviced and functioning. And if I've learned that mom = sewing machine help desk. Here is a picture of my machine.

Few projects are already under the planning stage, but I decided to start from a pajama. The good thing about it is, that if it doesn't really work out, practically no one will see it... I found the model from a Finnish craft magazine from 1995.

Tällaiset materiaalit ovat jo olleet jonkin aikaa varastossa projektia varten:

These materials have been in storage for awhile for the project:

Olen aloittanut yläosasta, ja näin pitkällä olen siinä:

And I've started with the top and this is how far I've gotten:

So the pieces are cut and I've sewn the darts. I had some problems with winding and had to call mum, since I didn't understand the picture in the sewing machine instructions... I almost hit the machine, but fortunately called mum...

Toivottavasti edes yläosa valmistuu tämän vuoden puolella...

I hope the top at least will be ready by the end of this year...

Alkuperäinen malli on löydettävissä täältä (pdf, otsikkona Eastern Star Emblem).

The thought, when I searched for this star pattern was that I would also buy some dark blue fleece fabric or a ready blanket, to which I would sew the stars. And I would choose a part of the sky and sew these in the for of a star chart. Now I finally finished one star. And the pattern was somehow really annoying. Pretty, but annoying. I don't think I can make enough stars on this pattern. So I will try to modify the pattern, search another one or leave the whole thing. I think I will try the first option. The original pattern can be found here (pdf, under Eastern Star Emblem).

Tulevaisuuden suunnitelmia - Future plans

Angry Birds

I've been playing way too much Angry Birds. And here I need to advertize, that it's a Finnish game and a friend told me that the way it's been coded is something new and interesting (how cool is that!). Anyway, the birds just sort of shout: "Crochet (or knit) me!" every time I play. And then I found this. I'm not good without a pattern, so I was very excited! I even went and bought stuffing for it (I have thought about amigurumis for awhile, but I need to have all the material ready: otherwise I never finish). The link is to the blog: the pattern is actually in ravelry, but I thought this way everyone can see what I'm talking about... :)

SYTYCK - So You Think You Can Knit

I don't know if this is an actual plan, since I don't really like to put my hobbies on a schedule (I don't need stress from my hobbies...), but I thought the idea is awesome. The idea is a challenge/contest in the style of So You Think You Can Dance. In the Finnish part I linked the instructions of the challenge, but I didn't find this in English. It originated from Sweden, but that blog was in Swedish... But the idea is to compare your knitting style to a dance style and then you get another style for the actual challenge (it's decided by the style you thought yourself and your blog). I wonder, how it would feel like to knit bollywood style...?

Jaynen pipo - Jayne's hat

Pretty cunning don't you think?

In the Firefly series Jayne gets a hat from his mother. This has been an inspiration to many knitters and I have also planned to make my own. This is probably the first one I have to adjust a little bit, since I haven't really found a pattern I like. Then again, it's a pretty basic hat, not that I've ever knitted one of those...

Ja sitten vaan toteuttamaan, tai jotain...

And then I only need to start working on them, or something...
